In this process, breaking barriers between brands and ecosystems and promoting interconnection and interoperability among devices has become a critical step for the industry to advance toward scaled and synergistic development.

On March 13, the "New Standards for Smart Home, New Ecology for Intelligent Interconnection" GIIC Smart Home Industry Innovation and Development Forum was held during the 2026 China Appliance and Electronics World Expo (AWE).At the conference, the "Smart Home Unified Interconnection Series Standards" (hereinafter referred to as the "OneConnect Smart Home Standard"), led by the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium (GIIC) Smart Home Working Committee and jointly formulated by China's top-tier enterprises, was formally released.

This landmark standard focuses on interconnection and interoperability specifications for smart home ecosystem devices. Its principal initiators, contributors, and members are all leading Chinese manufacturers, with full consideration and integration of Chinese market scenarios and requirements. The standard demonstrates excellent compatibility with the large volume of Bluetooth and non-IP devices prevalent in the Chinese market, and adapts to China-led and -dominated protocols such as SparkLink, possessing advantages in low latency and Mesh networking. Faced with the substantial installed base of existing devices in Chinese households, the standard enables relatively effortless integration of existing "legacy devices" with different protocols into the smart home ecosystem through heterogeneous protocol gateways. Furthermore, the standard incorporates mechanisms aligned with Chinese market requirements and security specifications across network configuration, communication, and OTA upgrade processes.Concurrently, the series standards also fully incorporated valuable input from international industry alliances and relevant enterprises during their formulation, remaining open to the global ecosystem and poised to continuously attract greater participation from international manufacturers in co-construction.

Release Ceremony of the "Smart Home Unified Interconnection Series Standards" (OneConnect Smart Home Standard)

Academician Ni Guangnan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering attached great importance to this standard's release.
