On March 13, 2026, the first meeting of the first committee of the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium (GIIC) IoT Standards and Industry Promotion Committee was successfully convened in Shanghai. GIIC Consortium Council Chairman Gao Tongqing, Secretary-General Hu Caiyong, and representatives from 35 member units including Haier, Huawei, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, China National Institute of Household Electric Appliances, China Electronics Standardization Institute, and HiSilicon attended the meeting, jointly witnessing the formal establishment of the first committee of the IoT Promotion Committee and propelling IoT industry standardization and ecosystem construction into a new stage.

Organizational Structure Formally Established, Core Leadership Team Unveiled
he meeting deliberated and approved the "Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium IoT Standards and Industry Promotion Committee Working Regulations," establishing the Promotion Committee as a subordinate branch of the GIIC Consortium, with "technology + industry chain" dual-wheel drive, focusing on user experience, and promoting high-quality development of the IoT industry as its working objectives. Through voting by participating representatives, Ms. Yu Lianghuan of Haier Smart Home was elected as Chair of the First Committee, and seven individuals were elected as Vice Chairs: Mr. Zhao Bo of Huawei, Mr. Shi Chao of China Mobile, Mr. Du Jia of China Telecom, Mr. Jiao Limin of China National Institute of Household Electric Appliances, Mr. Pan Rong of China Electronics Standardization Institute, Mr. Jiang Boya of HiSilicon, and Mr. Wang Zhe of Qingdao National Innovation Center. GIIC Consortium Secretary-General Hu Caiyong presented appointment certificates to the elected Chair and Vice Chairs.

Approval of Urban IoT Perception Technology Special Committee Establishment Application
The meeting reviewed and approved the establishment application for the Urban IoT Perception Technology Special Committee. This Special Committee is led by Neoway Technology in its preparatory work, jointly initiated by over 20 units including Huawei, Shenzhen Kaihong, and China Mobile, with the Shenzhen Municipal Data Bureau serving as the guiding unit. The Special Committee will focus on IoT standardization work in the urban governance domain, promote the application of HarmonyOS and SparkLink technologies in urban perception systems, construct a "cloud-pipe-edge-terminal" collaborative security system, and establish a comprehensive certification mechanism encompassing connectivity fluency, data accuracy, and standards compliance. In 2026, it plans to complete standards system project initiation and drafting, and promote application in Shenzhen and 13 partner cities.

Charting Development Blueprint, Clarifying Six Core Directions
IoT Promotion Committee Chair Yu Lianghuan presented the work planning report at the meeting. He noted that the IoT industry is currently at a critical stage of scaled development and high-quality upgrading, facing pain points including non-unified standards, ecosystem fragmentation, and insufficient data value mining. The Promotion Committee has established a full-linkage development objective encompassing "technology research, standards construction, ecosystem implementation, service support, and data value mining," and will prioritize six core areas of work: vertical domain research and demand mining, IoT standardization construction, testing and certification system establishment, ecosystem construction and implementation, public service platform construction, and data value mining, to promote the healthy development of the IoT industry.

In 2026, the Promotion Committee will deeply cultivate the eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee and the Urban IoT Perception Technology Special Committee, complete the preparatory establishment of the Smart Building Special Committee, conduct research in细分领域 such as industrial IoT, smart wearables, and smart homes, deepen international cooperation, and promote alignment between domestic and international standards.
Consolidating Consensus, Jointly Charting New Chapters for Industrial Development
During the open discussion segment, participating representatives actively contributed suggestions and recommendations. Mr. Wang Yazhong, representative of VIVO, suggested expanding the coverage of Promotion Committee members and strengthening synergy with industry alliances; Mr. Pan Rong, representative of China Electronics Standardization Institute, stated that the institute would leverage its standardization expertise to promote the application of Consortium achievements; Mr. Zhao Bo, representative of Huawei, suggested further clarifying the boundary division and coordination mechanisms among various promotion committees.

GIIC Consortium Council Chairman Gao Tongqing delivered concluding remarks, extending congratulations on the establishment of the Promotion Committee and proposing three expectations: First, to serve as a "pathfinder" for deep industrial exploration with "full-linkage" thinking, connecting all segments from technology research to data value mining; Second, to serve as an "accelerator" for ecological coupling through "synergy" and "cooperation," achieving elevation from "resource acquisition" to "capability co-creation"; Third, to promote Chinese IoT technology and standards to the global stage with a "globalization" perspective, contributing to the national "going global" strategy.

Going forward, the Promotion Committee, under the guidance of the Consortium Council, will work hand in hand with all member units to jointly build a new ecosystem of intelligent interconnection for all things, contributing Chinese strength to the high-quality development of the global IoT industry.
