On January 29, 2026, the inaugural assembly of the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium (GIIC) eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee was grandly convened. GIIC Council Chairman Gao Tongqing attended and delivered remarks. Mr. Wang Qiming, Chairman of China Unicom Huasheng Communications Co., Ltd., and Mr. Li Lixin, General Manager, attended and witnessed the establishment of the eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee. Dozens of representatives from operators, chip manufacturers, card vendors, terminal enterprises, testing institutions, and other domains assembled to jointly witness this momentous occasion advancing the development of the eSIM IoT industry.
The GIIC eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee is a specialized subordinate branch of the GIIC Consortium, jointly initiated and established by 29 units including China Unicom, China Mobile, China Telecom, and Qingdao Haier Technology. It focuses on technological innovation, standards construction, and industrial synergy in the eSIM IoT domain. The establishment of the Special Committee not only fills the gap in the Consortium's deployment in the eSIM IoT specialized domain but also constructs a core platform for collaborative development across the entire industry chain, laying a solid foundation for resolving industry development pain points and promoting standardized industrial upgrading.

The meeting deliberated and approved the "eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee Working Regulations," and elected the Special Committee management team. China Unicom was elected as the Chair Unit, with Mr. Chen Fengwei, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Huasheng Communications Co., Ltd., elected as Chair. China Mobile, China Telecom, and Qingdao Haier Technology were elected as Vice Chair Units, with Mr. Li Jiajun of China Unicom Huasheng Communications Co., Ltd. elected as Secretary-General of the Special Committee. Mr. Hu Caiyong, Secretary-General of the GIIC Consortium, and the newly elected Special Committee Chair Mr. Chen Fengwei jointly unveiled the plaque for the eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee.

Following the successful conclusion of the inaugural assembly, the "AI Terminal New Ecology Salon" commenced smoothly. Participating guests from China Mobile, China Telecom, Chengmai Technology, RunKaiHong, Honghu Wanlian, Ruixi Zhilian, UnionPay Gold Card, and other units spoke enthusiastically, creating a vibrant atmosphere, generating numerous innovative ideas through discussions on OpenHarmony and the intelligent terminal industry development, as well as the development vision and challenges of the eSIM industry.
At the conclusion of the meeting, GIIC Consortium Council Chairman Gao Tongqing summarized:
Council Chairman Gao Tongqing extended congratulations on the establishment of the eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee, and expressed hope that participating units would collaborate to forge the Special Committee into the "most powerful engine" for outputting international standards and promoting AI + eSIM fusion innovation.
Council Chairman Gao Tongqing pointed out that the essence of the current AI terminal revolution is the reconstruction of ecosystem architecture, rather than mere technological upgrading. The profit model previously dominated by "mobile phone + APP" is facing disruption, while Chinese manufacturers represented by Huawei are constructing a "China Model" distinct from overseas ecosystems, relying on autonomously controllable chips, operating systems, and security certification systems.
Council Chairman Gao Tongqing emphasized that future genuine competition will not lie in hardware parameters, but in ecosystem discourse power—whoever can define the new paradigm of "connectivity as service" will dominate the global standards for next-generation intelligent terminals. China's autonomous ecosystem will not only serve the domestic market but will also reverse-empower the globe, becoming a significant pole in global intelligent terminal development.

Amid the tide of the digital economy, eSIM technology is approaching a critical inflection point for scaled development. Its core advantages of "over-the-air card writing" and "remote management" have permeated thousands of industries, becoming the "digital nexus" connecting devices, data, and services. The establishment of the eSIM IoT Technology Special Committee represents a significant milestone in the GIIC Consortium's eSIM IoT industry development process. Going forward, the Special Committee will construct a core platform for efficient industry chain collaboration, resolve industry pain points such as non-unified standards and ecosystem fragmentation, promote deep integration of eSIM technology with emerging technologies including artificial intelligence and OpenHarmony, inject robust momentum into the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, and jointly inaugurate a new era of intelligent interconnection for all things.
