On August 29, 2025, the third meeting of the first committee of the HarmonyOS Ecosystem Promotion Committee of the Global Intelligent IoT Alliance (GIIC) was successfully held in Shenzhen. The meeting brought together more than 40 institutions, including deputy director units, committee member units, and industry representatives of the GIIC Alliance’s HarmonyOS Ecosystem Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Promotion Committee”).
Mr. Du Jinbiao, the director of the Promotion Committee, stated that the HarmonyOS ecosystem is steadily building a comprehensive ecological framework covering technical standards, certification systems, talent cultivation, and industry applications. In the future, it will continue to adhere to the development concept of “openness, neutrality, and win-win” to promote industrial collaborative innovation.
In terms of standard construction, six standards, including the “Unified Interconnection Thing Model” and the “HarmonyOS SDK Technical Requirements and Testing Methods,” were unanimously approved by 41 units and have completed public display. These standards will provide technical specifications for the interconnection and secure development of HarmonyOS ecosystem devices, promoting efficient industrial collaboration.
New progress has been made in the construction of the talent cultivation system. The “OpenHarmony Device Developer Competency Evaluation Standard” has been launched for public display, clarifying the division of talent competency levels and certification rules, which are applicable to entities such as governments, enterprises, and universities. The “Excellent Lecturer Certification Standard (Draft)” has completed the review and entered the public display stage, aiming to improve the HarmonyOS ecosystem’s faculty system to support talent echelon construction.
The construction of specialized committees is steadily advancing. The meeting reviewed and approved the establishment of the Construction Specialized Committee and the HarmonyOS Security Specialized Committee. The Construction Specialized Committee held a preparatory meeting on August 18, with more than 30 units, including the China Academy of Building Research, Huawei, and China Telecom, participating. The focus is on promoting the improvement and development of the construction HarmonyOS standards and certification system. The HarmonyOS Security Specialized Committee has currently planned 10 initial member units and will focus on promoting threat intelligence sharing, 2B security solutions, and the construction of an international security ecosystem in the future.
At present, the Promotion Committee has achieved a series of phased results. It has completed the unified interconnection certification of the first batch of five devices and the security and trustworthiness evaluation of ten SDKs. It has also authorized HarmonyOS Ecosystem Service Company Xingchen, Xinghe, and the three major laboratories of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology to carry out evaluation work. In terms of talent cultivation, it has launched seed lecturer training and industry promotion activities, covering multiple groups such as governments, universities, and enterprises.
According to the plan, the GIIC HarmonyOS Evaluation and Certification Platform will be officially launched in the first half of 2026 to support the certification needs of more devices and SDKs. Specialized committees in construction, security, communication, and other fields will successively carry out industry scenario innovation competitions, pilot project solicitation, and the construction of international sub-committees to promote the international development of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
This meeting further clarified the development path of the HarmonyOS ecosystem in standard setting, industry applications, and talent cultivation, showing a good trend of coordinated development and a broad prospect.
