On April 17, 2025, the first session of the second meeting of the Harmony Ecosystem Promotion Committee of the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium (GIIC) was convened at the Wenxuan Conference Center in Chengdu.During the meeting, the Communication Special Committee of the Harmony Ecosystem Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "GIIC Communication Special Committee") was officially established by the joint initiative of 25 leading enterprises in the industry chain, including the three major operators—China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom—along with Huawei, Hisilicon, Midea, and Harmony Ecosystem Service Company.
With the rapid development of the Harmony ecosystem, the communication industry, as the core carrier of the Internet of Everything, urgently needs to promote the in-depth implementation of the Harmony operating system in communication equipment, network services, and industry applications through technical collaboration, joint standard building, and ecosystem integration.
As the first industry special committee under the Harmony Ecosystem Promotion Committee, the GIIC Communication Special Committee is committed to the principles of "openness, integration, cooperation, and mutual benefit." It will take the open-source Harmony operating system as the core to build a "unified standard, open ecosystem, and globally compatible" intelligent communication system covering the entire communication industry chain. It aims to drive the in-depth penetration of Harmony in smart homes, 5G/6G base stations, industrial Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, computing power networks, and other fields. By 2028, it is expected to achieve "technological self-reliance and control, open and prosperous ecosystem, and globally recognized standards," providing an efficient, secure, and intelligent Chinese operating system solution for the global communication industry.
At the meeting, the representatives of the committee members deliberated and approved the establishment of the Communication Special Committee and the election of the president. A representative from China Mobile Communications Group, as the president unit, delivered a speech, outlining the development vision and plans of the Communication Special Committee. They provided a detailed introduction to the achievements in the co-construction of the Harmony ecosystem, which included leading standard formulation, developing the Zhongyi Harmony operating system, promoting the implementation of innovative products, and strengthening ecosystem collaboration. They also shared future plans to inject new momentum into industry development through the Communication Special Committee. Subsequently, China Unicom and China Telecom also spoke, jointly expressing their expectations for the development of the Harmony ecosystem and their confidence in the collaborative development of the Communication Special Committee.
The establishment of the Communication Special Committee signifies that the Harmony ecosystem has entered a new stage of collaborative co-construction and unified standards in the communication field. With the deepening of technical standards, cooperation among ecosystem partners, and the advancement of international cooperation, the Harmony operating system will accelerate the empowerment of various industries, creating an efficient, secure, and intelligent "digital foundation" for the global communication industry and ushering in a new era of intelligent interconnection of all things.
